Dr. K. Karunanithi has completed 32 years of service in various capacities in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and worked in various colleges and research stations.
As a teacher, he has handled classes for U.G and P.G students at Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy campuses of TNAU. As a researcher, he made significant contribution for the biological control of diseases in oilseed crops, sugarcane, coconut, rice, etc.,. He has also associated for the release of Sugarcane varieties CoC 22, CoC 23, CoC 24, Snake gourd varieties PLR (SG) 1, PLR (SG) 2 and Groundnut variety VRI 7.
He has undergone an International training on “Molecular characterization of Alternaria spp.” at Chungnam National University, South Korea and various National level trainings and he himself organized several state level trainings and conferences.
He has published 65 national and international research papers, 85 popular article, 7 books, 4 book chapters, 9 research notes, 20 Conference/Seminar/Symposium papers, 10 Manuals – Teaching/training/e-course and several booklets. He is also a life time member in various academy and professional bodies, which has led him to the receipt of six externally funded grants from various funding agencies.
He has been conferred with various awards such as, “Young Scientist Award” 2001 by Gaurav Society, Hissar, “Crop Research Award” 2004 by Guarav society, Hissar, “Gold Medal Certificate” for the best paper of SISTAheld at Chennai and awarded at Joint convention held at Hyderabad during 2005 and he has bagged the “Best Researcher Award” 2009 by TNAU, Coimbatore.
He has visited various countries viz., United States of America, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Taiwan, Srilanka and Hongkong.
